"The authentic self is the soul made visible." - Sarah Ban Breathnach
These are the days of simple abundance in my world. I have the privilege of moving slowly and intentionally in this phase of my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to rediscover consistent joy. It's a precious time where I can fully enjoy my children, as they also embrace and appreciate me. I am present with them, free from the constraints of work or school. It's a season of beauty, tenderness, and I am aware of its fleeting nature. I strive to give them a taste of my cherished childhood summers—filled with swimming, reading, spending time outdoors, and being with friends. It's a slower-paced, simple, and joyful experience.
In my journey towards simplicity, I found inspiration in a book called "Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort & Joy" by Sarah Ban Breathnach. This exquisite book explores the profound connection between intentionality, nature, and happiness. It emphasizes the significance of embracing a slower pace of life and reconnecting with our authentic selves.
To begin your own path to simplicity and experience its (numerous) benefits, consider implementing the following tips. Remember, find what resonates with you and gradually incorporate simplicity into different aspects of your life. In doing so, you can cultivate a sense of peace, balance, and fulfillment, paving the way for a happier and more meaningful existence.
Declutter your living space: Start small, focusing on one area at a time. Let go of items that no longer serve a purpose or bring you joy.
Practice mindful eating: Savor each bite, paying attention to the flavors and textures of your food. Avoid distractions such as screens or rushing through meals.
Create moments of stillness and reflection: Establish a daily routine that includes time for meditation, journaling, or simply being present and observing your surroundings.
Simplify your digital life: Streamline your email inbox, unsubscribe from unnecessary newsletters, and limit your time on social media.
Embrace minimalism: Be intentional about the things you bring into your life. Consider the value and usefulness of an item before making a purchase.
Prioritize experiences over material possessions: Instead of accumulating more things, invest in activities and adventures that bring you joy and create lasting memories. (Don't forget to swim with your children!)
Incorporate nature into your daily life: Whether it's a walk in the park, tending to a small garden, or simply having houseplants, connecting with nature can bring a sense of calm and grounding.
Practice gratitude: Take a moment each day to appreciate the simple things in life. Write down three things you're grateful for and reflect on them.
Spend quality time with loved ones: Engage in meaningful conversations, enjoy shared activities, and prioritize building deep connections.
Disconnect from technology regularly: Designate specific times or days to unplug from devices and focus on being fully present in the moment.
By embracing simplicity and implementing these suggestions, you can cultivate a life filled with abundance, peace, and authentic joy. Allow simplicity to guide you on a journey of self-discovery, connection with nature, and the realization of what truly matters in life. And I am absolutely with you in this as I am practicing what I preach. Be well.
